A revolution and armed struggle took place in East Pakistan in 1971 against the then West Pakistan. The People's War took place in the wake of the rise of Bengali nationalism and the independence movement in East Pakistan and in the wake of the Bengali genocide. [26] The West Pakistan-centric military junta government launched Operation Searchlight against the people of East Pakistan on the night of March 25, 1971 and launched a systematic genocide. Through this, nationalist ordinary Bengali citizens, students, teachers, intellectuals, religious minorities and the police and EPR. Officers were killed. The military junta government denied the results of the 1970 general election and arrested the leader of the majority party, Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. The war ended with the surrender of West Pakistan on 16 December 1971.
১৯৭১ সালে তৎকালীন পশ্চিম পাকিস্তানের বিরুদ্ধে পূর্ব পাকিস্তানে সংঘটি একটি বিপ্লব ও সশস্ত্র সংগ্রাম। পূর্ব পাকিস্তানে বাঙালি জাতীয়তাবাদের উত্থান ও স্বাধিকার আন্দোলনের ধারাবাহিকাতায় এবং বাঙালি গণহত্যার প্রেক্ষিতে এই জনযুদ্ধ সংঘটিত হয়। যুদ্ধের ফলে স্বাধীন ও সার্বভৌম গণপ্রজাতন্ত্রী বাংলাদেশ রাষ্ট্রের অভ্যূদয় ঘটে। পশ্চিম পাকিস্তান কেন্দ্রিক সামরিক জনতা সরকার ১৯৭১ শে মার্চ ২৫ মার্চ রাতে পূর্ব পাকিস্তানের জনগণের বিরুদ্ধে অপারেশন সার্চলাইন করে এবং নিয়মতান্ত্রিক গণথায় শুরু করে। এর মাধ্যমে জাতীয়তাবাদী সাধারণ বাঙালি নাগরিক, ছাত্র ছাত্র, শিক্ষক বুদ্ধিজীবী, ধর্মীয় সংখ্যালুঘু এবং পুলিশ, ই.পিআর কর্মকর্তাদের হত্যা করে। সামরিক জান্তা সরকার ১৯৭০ সালের সাধারণ নির্বাচনের ফলাফলকে অস্বীকার করে এবং সংখ্যারিষ্ঠ দলের নেতা শেখ মুজিবুর রহমানকে হত্যা করে। ১৯৭১ সালের ১৬ই ডিসেম্বর পাশ্চিম পাকিস্তানের আত্মসমর্পণের মাধ্যমে যুদ্ধের সমাপ্তি ঘটে।
